"THEIR SEX" von LILA SCHAFFLER
Erinnerst Du Dich an die Geschichte dieser alten Fotografie? Sie wurde vor Jahren mal an einem Konzert in dem heruntergekommenen Bowery Viertel gemacht. Da sitzt ein Junger mitten in einer besoffenen, Pogo tanzenden Horde neben der Bühne am Boden. Niemand ist mehr da ausser ihm und er sitzt da auf einem Stuhl, den Mund offen und schreiend. Man kann ihn beinahe hören wenn man genügend lang drauf starrt.
Ich meine alle anderen sind gegangen, aber da ist dieser Junge mit Blut im Gesicht von einem ausgerissenen Piercing, um seine müden Füsse überall Plastikbecher und Zigarettenstummel, die aussehen wie Patronenhülsen und er ist einfach nur da, inmitten des Ganzen, einen unsichtbaren Mond anschreiend, ein riesen Wahnsinn. Es ist einfach nur ein Foto, aber es zerreisst Dir trotzdem das Herz.
Es ist in all dem nicht den Fotografen den ich bewundere sondern der Junge.

Remember the story of that old photograph? It was taken at some show in the run-down Bowery years ago. There’s this boy sitting in the middle of some trashed mosh-pit right below the stage. No ones left but him, and he’s sitting there in this chair, his mouth open and screaming.
You can almost hear it if you stare hard enough.
I mean everyone else was gone, but here’s this boy with blood on his face from a pulled piercing, keg cups surrounding his tired shoes, cigarette butts lining the floors like bullet shells, and he’s just there in the thick of it all alone and screaming to some invisible moon, some greater madness. It’s just a picture really, but I swear it will tear your heart out all the same.
It’s what its like I suppose. Pogo-dancing insanity, some band destroying the already torn cloth speakers with curses and riffs, ripped piercings, blood, drool, the yellow fuzz from keg cups splashing in eyes and crying…And just for that moment, everyone’s in the same place feeling the shit and glory of some fantastically well orchestrated abuse. And in the end there’s just that one person left over for it all to come back to, the one person left who just eats it all, hating it loving it, slipping away and coming back all over again, sitting there in that empty room screaming. I mean, how do you top that?
Its not the photographer I admire, it’s the boy.
